How can train accessibility be improved?
The needs of all passengers have to be taken into account: wheelchair users, bicycles, older people,
people with visual or hearing disabilities, mothers and fathers with prams, tall people…
To make trains more accessible, it is necessary to create fully low floors, reserved spaces for wheelchair users, spacious “universal” toilets with direct access to every fixture, and assisted access doors equipped with automatic platform gap fillers. It is also necessary to install handrails and double ramps on stairs, widen doors and corridors, increase the heights of doors and ceilings, and install a tactile signage system.
